2 hosts - a deliberate structure

Every Wanvela trip from Bangkok travels with one tour leader and one professional photographer. This isn't a marketing gimmick, it's a cost structure we built deliberately.

Why 2 hosts, not 1

Standard Bangkok tour groups use one tour leader for 15–25 guests, that's the cost line. Wanvela uses 2 hosts for groups of 4–12, a 1:3 ratio, the lowest in the Thai market.

The reason:

• Tour leader · manages logistics, hotel check-ins, transfers, restaurant bookings, local liaison, unexpected events
• Photographer · photographs only, without logistics to manage, the images are better

What the tour leader actually does

On a normal Italy trip day, the tour leader works 13–15 hours:

• 6:30 am · check weather, reconfirm activities, check HQ email
• 7–9 am · meet clients at breakfast, brief the day
• 9 am–1 pm · lead the group to activities, manage guides, drive
• 1–3 pm · lunch, monitor client energy
• 3–6 pm · afternoon activity or free time, admin work
• 6–7 pm · brief dinner, accompany clients
• 9–11 pm · finalize tomorrow's logistics, debrief with photographer

What the photographer actually does

Many assume the photographer just takes photos, in reality, more:

• Pre-trip · scout locations at the destination
• Daily · shoot 500–1,500 frames
• Evening · backup cards, light culling
• Off-day · color grading, selection
• Post-trip · edit the album, deliver within 14 days

The cost of 2 hosts

Wanvela sends both hosts from Bangkok, round-trip flight + accommodation + food + per diem + insurance for 2 hosts on a 9-night Europe trip runs approximately THB 450,000.

For a group of 6 = THB 75,000 per guest in cost, close to a quarter of the trip price.

Why Wanvela won't reduce it

The question other operators ask us, "Why not use a local photographer?" Our answer:

• Local photographers don't know the client, they don't know the grandchild's name, they can't see the change in a parent's heart.
• A Wanvela photographer is with the client for 7–9 days, building the trust that makes portraits feel real.
• Cultural language, Thai clients are more comfortable with a Thai photographer.
• Album editing, Wanvela photographers understand the brand aesthetic.

Backup when a host falls ill

Wanvela has 3 levels of backup:

• If the tour leader is ill, the photographer takes over + Wanvela HQ sends a replacement within 48 hours
• If the photographer is ill, Wanvela HQ has on-call freelance photographers in the destination
• This has happened twice in 3 years, neither incident affected the client's trip

Who Wanvela's hosts are

Our tour leaders (6 in total), all trained for 6 months with Wanvela, knowing every hotel, restaurant, and destination before leading their first trip.

Our photographers (4 in total), all editorial-level portfolios, working with Sony A7R V or Leica SL3, with a full 16mm–200mm lens kit.

Rebooking clients

72% of Wanvela clients rebook a second trip within 18 months, and most request the same tour leader. This is proof the 2-host model works.
